About Dominique

I’m Dominique Drakeford — a dog lover, karaoke enthusiast and aspiring home gardener. As a thought-leader, I channel my Leo energy into challenging unsustainable systems while proudly celebrating my Blackness. For more than a decade, I’ve been reimagining what sustainability can mean, weaving together transformative justice and creative innovation. And yes, I do it all while looking fly AF! 

BACKGROUND:

My roots lie in youth development and adventure-based outdoor education and recreation. Raised in Oakland — the birthplace of the Black Panthers — creative community building shaped both my personal and early professional life. I served as a youth leader, women’s empowerment mentor and college pathway coordinator at the East Oakland Youth Development Center. Designing creative programming for Black and Brown youth let me build impact-driven activities and curricula across the Bay Area. As a devoted Missy Elliott fan, backpacker, thrift shopper, chess player and soccer coach, I bring an eclectic lens to reimagining sustainability. 

TODAY:

I’m a non-traditional environmental educator holding a BA in Business Environmental Management and a Master’s Degree from NYU in Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Fashion.  

Along the way, I’ve collaborated with many companies and organizations to deepen my grasp of systems-based thinking for a regenerative future, grounded in ethical and creative ecological consulting. Fashion may be my entry point, but my whole lifestyle reflects a mosaic of reinforced sustainability standards.
