An IKKIVI x NISOLO Desert Collaboration

There’s something so beautiful being in the desert and having your outer skin reflect the beauty of the natural habitat. In this space - earth tones are majestic royal!

Dress via IKKIVI-

Designer: Mati - 'Mati' in Hindi means 'soil'. Soil can be moulded into various shapes. Designer Fatima K. Punjaabi captures this essence into her clothes as a reflection of her personal style.

The brand is all about comfortable silhouettes. The raw organic feel comes from sustainable and handwoven fabrics, shapes that are inspired by nature and colours that are earthy and natural.

Saturday Farmer's Market with bagE

Reusable Tote - BagE

I'm finally excited about farmer market season now that Spring is in full bloom. Shopping at farmer's markets, local grocers and Trader Joe's are my top places to invest in healthy food options.

Especially with the weather nice there are two "must do's" on my list when I'm grocery shopping:    1) dress comfortably cute and 2) bring my own reusable shopping bag and/or produce bag. The amount of single serve plastic that's wasted during grocery shopping is astounding. I've particularly been loving the bagE Pack, which consists of a washable reusable shopping tote Bag and Set of 3 premium reusable mesh produce bags.

I know it's Earth Month, but to me every month is Earth Month! It's extremely important that we start to make better environmental decisions that become part of our lifestyle. And I'm going to continue to use and support brands who invest their time and energy in the triple bottom line: people, planet & profit.

Prints x Graffiti = An Urban Masterpiece

I've been slowly transitioning my wardrobe to a more monochromatic vibe. As I continuously evolve as a person, I'm starting to fall in love with the elegance and beauty of simplicity (with pops of pattern). However, from time to time I get back to my roots of loving to mix and match prints when I'm feeling bold and daring.

Casual Cali Days

The one thing I love about Cali more than anything are the outdoors and the vast array of wilderness. Sometimes fashion isn't about style, about about the ability to just BE and what makes you feel comfortable enough to be immerse in the natural world.

The month of December is always exciting for me - not because of the holiday but it's such an important time for reflection and goal setting just before the New Year. I have some much to be thankful for and I've accomplished quite a bit this year! So for that, I have nothing but smiles on the first day of December! This golden two piece makes me just want to dance. It gives me all of the SOLANGE VIBES -and she without question is my style icon. Great style and great energy makes a great first day of December.

I love putting together looks that are either inspired by a decade or iconic figures in my life. The wide leg pants with the kangol gave me all of the 70's vibes! Kowtow is an amazing New Zealand brand. The label is committed to using fair trade certified organic cotton, Global Organic Textile Standard approved dyes, mindful manufacturing with fair working conditions, ethically sourced trims and sustainable packaging. Trove is a brand that I'm fairly new to - they partner directly with global artisans - creating jobs and celebrating culture. And in all transparency - I love that the owner doesn't just work with melanin communities but also uses WOC in their branding and marketing. It's such an important part of representation - making sure that WOC aren't just seen as laborers!

Sometimes I have such a challenge when the weather transitions. But what I've been finding lately, is a love for knee high socks alongside the perfect dress that will show a little bit of skin (wink wink). I love to layer and I'm quite surprised at myself when I can layer and keep all solid colors - clearly looking like RAIDER NATION in this one. My fashion sensibility in this New York whether has certainly been a journey.

Brass necklace - Thrifted in the streets of Delhi, India

Lipstick - Axiology (natural, organic, vegan & cruelty free)

_Y8A2253.jpg

Sometimes I want to look nice but not be extra! LOL Bhava's Ali Block Heel Mule is HELLA comfortable, extremely cute, and easy to slip on when you're on the go! I particularly love to support this brand as the founder, Francisca, has been hard at work fighting injustices within fashion for years. This BDAC sweatshirt is also extremely comfortable and so easy to wear. This particular brand does a lot of over-sized items  -- I think pairing an oversized top with a little heel gives the tomboy vibe a little sass. This is clearly my "I'm lazy but let me look like I give a damn" look.

From Nigeria and Ghana To The Markets of Sri Lanka, Street Style Gets A Kiss Of Culture

4.jpg

Prints & Solids

Saree Blouse - thrifted in the markets of Sri Lanka

Marigold Pencil Skirt - Nigerian designer Attollé Clothiers

Handmade Cross-body Clutch- thrifted in the markets of Ghana

Felt Top Hat - Stolen from my boyfriend (Urban Outfitters)

High Heel Sandal- Calvin Klein

I love rockin' prints on prints but I equally love the juxtaposition of prints mixed with solids. I absolutely adore this Marigold pencil skirt! Nigerian designer Bukola of Attollé Clothiers is known for making pieces that show the sophistication and class of a woman. It was easy for me to pair this with a saree top that I got in Sri Lanka - it's fitted, earth tone and it just a nice simple compliment to the ankara print. And then of course you seal the deal with accessories! : )

You can shop a plethora of amazing African designers at Inamunai
